Introduction

According to The PBHS Closet 2018, there are many sexual identities around us such as:

  • Heterosexual: Being attracted to a person from a different gender.
  • Homosexual: Being attracted to a person from the same gender.
  • Bisexual: Being attracted to two or more genders.
  • Questioning: People who are still wondering about their own sex.
  • Gynosexual: Being attracted to feminine gender presentation.

However, the sexuality narrative does not stop at these sexual identities. Alternative sexualities are behaviors, identities, and communities that stand in contrast or opposition to socially and culturally dominant sexualities (The Committee on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender History, 2002). These sexualities will push the boundaries of sexuality further and broaden our knowledge.

  • Autosexuality: Being sexually attracted to oneself. In other words, these people can only love themselves.
  • Demisexuality: Being sexually attracted after forming a strong emotional bond first or a romantic bond.
  • Sapiosexuality: Being sexually attracted only towards intelligence in other people.
  • Haemosexuality: Being sexually attracted to the sight/taste/smell of blood during sexual intercourse.
  • Objectumsexuality: Being sexually attracted to inanimate objects.
  • Zoosexuality: Being sexually attracted to animals.
  • Cupiosexuality: Feeling not attracted by any gender but still desiring a sexual or romantic relationship.
